Art Deco & Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau is based on romanticism and symbolism. It originated in London and then spread to Europe and the United States. The style, which translates to “the new art”, was given other names. In Germany, it is referred to as Jugendstil, it is referred to as Sezessionstil in Austria and in Spain, it is also called Modernismo. Some of the most popular artists from the era include, Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt and Antonio Gaudi.
Art Nouveau Art Deco
Art Deco, much like the Hollywood movies of the time, served as an escape from the economic slump. The style was influenced by many different design movements. Cubism, Art Nouveau and Neoclassical are some of styles that can be easily recognized. Art Deco is based on mathematical and geometric shapes. It is a form of elegant and stylish modernism. Other popular themes are trapezoidal, zigzagged, geometric, and jumbled shapes.
