History of art deco continued...
The history of art deco is evident from the nature of its pieces. Much like the Hollywood movies of the time, the artworks and pieces of furniture served as an escape from the on and off economic slumps that people have been experiencing. Adding to that, the influences from the different design movements can also be identified. Cubism, art Nouveau and Neoclassical are some of styles that can be easily recognized.
French fashion designer Paul Poiret and French Jewelry Designer and Glass Designer Rene Lalique pioneered art deco designs. With free-flowing lines and unusual colors that were made from the latest innovations, art deco has a distinguished appeal. Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso also influenced the original designs. Some of the art deco designers also borrowed from the ancient art of Egyptians particularly from the treasures of Tuntankhamun, which was exhibited in Paris in 1922.
